Overview
In this web-based activity, you will practice and improve your English pronunciation using a combination of synchronous and asynchronous digital tools. You will participate in a guided Zoom pronunciation practice, record a short speaking sample using Flipgrid (Microsoft Flip), and complete a short reflection on your pronunciation progress. You will also complete a 10-question multiple-choice quiz to check your understanding of the tools, steps, and strategies used in this activity.
This activity is designed to support diverse learning needs through Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, including options for visual, auditory, and reflective engagement. By the end of the activity, you will have developed practical pronunciation skills and gained confidence in using accessible digital tools for language learning.
Instructions
Step 1: Review the Tutorial Materials
- Watch the short tutorial on how to use Zoom live captions for pronunciation awareness.

- Explore the accessibility features built into Zoom and Flipgrid to support diverse learning needs.
Step 2: Join the Zoom Pronunciation Practice Session
- Access the Zoom session at the scheduled time:

- Participate in guided pronunciation exercises focusing on:
- Word stress
- Vowel and consonant sounds
- Sentence rhythm and intonation
- Practice speaking aloud using phrases provided during the session.
- Engage respectfully with peers and offer constructive pronunciation feedback when prompted.
Step 3: Complete the Flipgrid Pronunciation Recording
- Go to the Flipgrid topic page:

- Rewatch your recording while paying attention to your:
- Clarity of sounds
- Word stress
- Intonation
- Post your recording to the group.
- Watch at least one peer’s recording and provide supportive feedback (e.g., “I noticed your stress pattern improved in the second sentence.”).
Step 4: Complete the Pronunciation Practice Quiz
Access the multiple-choice quiz on EdPuzzle:
- Go to edpuzzle.com and log in. If it’s their first time using Edpuzzle, they need to sign up for an account (no email required!).
- Enter their class code: hipospo
- Explore their class and assignments!
- Answer questions about:
- Zoom captions
- Flipgrid recording steps
- Pronunciation strategies
- UDL and accessibility features
- Submit your quiz to check your understanding.
- Review your results to identify areas for further pronunciation practice.
Step 5: Submit Your Written Reflection
- Write a short (200–300-word) reflection describing:
- What did you learned about your pronunciation
- How Zoom captions helped your awareness
- What you found helpful about recording in Flipgrid
- What do you want to continue practicing
- Submit your reflection through your learning management system (LMS).
